Overhaul Q&A #2

We have answered a selection of questions submitted through the Overhaul Q&A.

*Please note that the schedule and contents are subject to change without notice.

■About the Overhaul Direction and Schedule

Q:Is the development team focused on maintaining the deep, skill-based gameplay of SQUADRA, or is the goal to continue simplifying the game systems so that a broader range of players can enjoy the game?

A:With this overhaul, we are revising the game's rules and systems to make it more approachable for a wider audience. That said, we are not aiming to eliminate the competitive and strategic depth of the game.

Our goal is to achieve the right balance between accessibility for new and casual players and the depth that rewards players who continue to develop their skills and knowledge of the game.

Q:Will you continue to share future update plans in the form of roadmaps after the overhaul?

A:While we are not able to share any confirmed details at this time, we will continue to provide updates in this manner whenever possible and do our best to give players something to look forward to.

■About Battle and Gameplay

Q:Is collecting Dragon Balls the only way to win, or will there be other objectives as well?

A:During a match, the only objective is to collect Dragon Balls.

Q:Will the changes to the battle system also affect the controls used during battles?

A:The controls for skills will be changing as part of the overhaul. Details regarding the new key bindings will be announced after October.

Q:Will CPU battles still be available? If so, will playing them contribute to Battle Pass progression?

A:CPU Battles will continue to be available after the overhaul. In addition, playing them will contribute to progression in the new Battle Pass system.

Q:Are there any plans to add bosses or NPCs to the game mode after the overhaul?

A:We would like to explore the possibility of introducing them in the future through different game modes or rule sets.

Q:How frequently will balance adjustments be made after the overhaul?

A:We plan to continue releasing balance adjustment patches at roughly the same pace as we do today, typically alongside Hero releases, which is approximately once every two to three weeks.

Q:Since MAX Super Attacks obtained through Capsules vary in strength, will players who have them gain a significant advantage over those who don't?

A:MAX Super Attacks generally have advantages such as higher damage compared to default Super Attacks. However, we will maintain a game balance in which factors such as player skill and decision-making remain important.

In addition, obtaining the same MAX Super Attack multiple times will not enhance its performance. For duplicates, we will provide a system that allows players to obtain other items instead.

■About Roles and Heroes

Q:Now that the roles have been reorganized into two categories, how will Heroes in each role be differentiated?

A:All Heroes have both long-range and close-range Rush Attacks. Long-range Heroes have an advantage with their long-range Rush Attacks, dealing higher damage and experiencing less spread when using them consecutively. In addition, their skills are generally focused on mid- to long-range attacks, as well as skills that help create distance from opponents.

That said, long-range Heroes are still capable of fighting at close range. They have close-range Rush Attacks and new combat motions. However, compared to close-range Heroes, they are generally less effective in close-range engagements, both in terms of damage output and durability when pressured by opponents.

As before, understanding each Hero's strengths and weaknesses and cooperating with your teammates will remain an important part of gameplay.

Q:Will the reduction to two roles affect matchmaking or the combinations of Heroes seen in matches?

A:As with the current system, players will first select a role before entering matchmaking. Once a match is found, they can choose a Hero from those available within their selected role. As before, duplicate Heroes cannot be selected by players on the same team.

Since the roles are being consolidated into two categories, Heroes that were previously grouped under the same role will more often be able to coexist on the same team. As a result, team composition options will become more diverse.

Q:What will happen to Hero abilities other than skills, such as passive and transformations?

A:Passives are being comprehensively reviewed, just like each Hero's skills, and will be adjusted with updated functionality.

As for transformations, Heroes will be able to transform during a match by filling a gauge. Please note that the most effective way to fill the gauge will vary from Hero to Hero.

Q:How frequently will new Heroes be added after the overhaul?

A:In general, as with the current system, we plan to continue adding 3 new Heroes per season after the overhaul.

■About Maps

Q:How large will the map be after this major overhaul? Also, will there be more interactive elements on the map?

A:The map size will be changed, and we plan to offer multiple maps.

While the overall area will be smaller than the current map, each map will be optimized to fit the new game rules.

Destructible objects will continue to appear, but there will be fewer of them compared to the current map.

■About Communication Features

Q:Are there any plans to implement text chat and voice chat?

A:We do not have plans to implement these features for now, primarily in order to maintain a healthy communication environment between players.

Q:Are there any plans to add or improve player-to-player communication and blocking as part of the Season 8 overhaul?

A:We have received many requests regarding player-to-player communication features and blocking, and we are currently exploring options for adding and improving these features. However, because these systems can potentially be misused or lead to player disputes, we are taking a careful and thoughtful approach to this.

In addition, regarding disruptive behaviors such as AFK activity, we are expanding our report review processes and the scope of our enforcement measures. We will continue to strengthen our enforcement efforts following the overhaul.

■About Progression and Endgame Content

Q:Are there any progression features or long-term objectives outside of matches?

A:During Seasons 8 and 9 following the overhaul, we plan to gradually introduce a new type of Battle Pass along with additional progression features. We also aim to provide players with goals to pursue beyond just increasing their rank.

Q:What will the ranked rewards be after the overhaul?

A:Both Player Rank rewards and Role Rank rewards are planned to include customization items that allow players to further enhance and personalize their banners.

We will share more details about these customization features after October.

■About Customization and Visual Effects

Q:What will happen to the Grade Up version of "Emote: Dragon Ball Acquired"?

A:By playing a Hero a certain number of times, you will be able to upgrade the appearance of that Hero's "Emote: Dragon Ball Acquired".

Any "Emote: Dragon Ball Acquired" that have already been unlocked will be carried over after the overhaul, so you will not need to obtain them again for the applicable Heroes.

Q:Will there be any changes to the lobby animation?

A:There are no planned changes to this feature, and it will remain available after the overhaul.

Q:What will happen to the skins of Heroes that will not be playable during Season 8?

A:For Heroes that cannot be used during Season 8, you will still be able to check which skins you own and view those skins.

Q:Will there be any changes to the in-game background music (BGM)?

A:Some of the current in-game BGM tracks will remain, but some will be used less frequently, while others will be replaced with new music.

Q:Is there a possibility that previously distributed skins or past events will return after the overhaul?

A:There is a possibility that past events, such as the event that awarded the Santa Hat as a gameplay reward, may return in the future under the post-overhaul rules and systems.

■Other Questions

Q:Will cross-platform play continue to be supported after the overhaul?

A:Cross-platform play, cross-commerce, and cross-progression will continue to be supported after the overhaul. You will still be able to play across different platforms while retaining your game data.

However, Dragon Gems will continue to be managed separately for each platform, as they are now, and therefore cannot be carried over between platforms.

Q:What will happen to platform achievements and trophies that have already been earned?

A:Achievements and trophies that have already been unlocked on each platform will remain unlocked, and their names will be updated following the overhaul. Achievements and trophies that have not yet been unlocked by the time of the overhaul will retain their progress, while their completion requirements and names will be updated to the post-overhaul versions.

Q:How will the tutorial be updated after the overhaul?

A:The tutorial will be revised to match the new rules introduced with the overhaul, and all players, including existing players, will be asked to play through it again.

In addition, we plan to continue refining and updating the tutorial after the overhaul to help players better understand the game and get started more smoothly.

Q:What will happen to any unclaimed rewards from the Star Collection?

A:The Star Collection will be replaced with a new system after the overhaul. Any unclaimed rewards from the Star Collection will no longer be obtainable after Season 7 ends, so please make sure to claim them before the end of the season.

Unlocking heroes and "Emote: Dragon Ball Acquired" that can currently be obtained through the Star Collection are planned to remain available through gameplay after the overhaul. We are currently preparing a new way for players to earn these rewards.

Q:Will the price of Dragon Gems change as a result of the overhaul?

A:We do not currently plan to change the price of Dragon Gems as part of the overhaul.

Please note that prices may still be adjusted in response to external factors, such as changes in exchange rates.

Q:Will Dragon Gem purchases become available again in Brazil after the overhaul?

A:We are continuing to work toward resuming Dragon Gem sales in Brazil. However, we currently expect the resumption to take place after the overhaul.
